Description

"wisteria" is a drawing of Renko and Merry in a garden of wisteria flowers. Renko is kissing Merry on the cheek.

Motive

This drawing was intended as an improvement of journey, with better forms for the heads and hair. I also wanted the background to be some kind of a garden, which I feel wasn't very well expressed in "journey". A lot of the concepts for this drawing was actually borrowed from a lot of my other previous drawings as well.

Process

I sketched out a rough draft on my phone, before exporting it to my tablet, where I cleaned it up and got a usable sketch ready.
After that, I did the lineart with the default pencil brush and filled the colors in. At this point, the colors I used were similar to the one in chat, mostly utilizing warm colors, especially for Renko.
I did the shading and then started working on the background.
While deciding on what to do with the background (I already knew it was going to be something plant-based, as I wanted to do something similar to garden), I realized that I don't do a lot of purple drawings.
As such, I decided to use wisteria flowers hanging down from leafy arches as the background (and also the foreground, but I scrapped it due to not looking very good).
This caused a problem where the background was mostly somewhat cool (as despite both green and purple being more "neutral" colors, the shades I chose were specifically on the cooler side), but the characters were too warm.
So, I went back and redid a lot of the colors and did some hue shifting on my "glow" layers to make it fit more.
