Description
"first" is a drawing of Renko and Maribel standing on opposite sides of the canvas, Renko to the left and Merry to the right. Renko is standing under an out-of-frame street lamp in a city, with roads and some building visible, while Merry is standing in the middle of a path in a grassy field, with cherry blossom trees to the right, petals falling in the wind. The two parts meet at the middle, creating a harsh border between the two backgrounds.
The drawing was made in some kind of "paint-like" style. The background converges to a single vanishing point slightly above the center of the screen.
Background
"first" is the first actual digital drawing I've ever made. During the making of this drawing was also when I first understood what 1-point-perspective was, while also being the first to actually have a somewhat detailed background. Unlike sketch, I actually put quite a lot of effort into this one, trying to make it look as finished and polished as possible. Of course, being my first drawing ever, I had no idea how to use layers, ending up in (as far as I remeber), around 100 layers used, which is the most I have ever used for any drawing. The result was not all that satisfactory, even for me back then, but the act of creating and finishing a drawing was enough to motivate me during that time.
The name of this piece was given afterwards, "first" being chosen because this drawing is my first actual digital drawing.
Techniques
This is my first drawing where perspective was used. There was also an attempt at directional lightning, with Renko and Merry each having different light sources from different directions. A background was added to give the characters contrast, and to make the piece feel more alive and complete. Finally, attempts at clothes folds can be seen, primarily on Merry's clothes.
