Description

"dark" is a drawing of Koishi in the bottom left corner, with translucent text spelling her name out in Japanese. The background is a gray void, with a brush-like vignette effect, darkening the edges.

A clean lineless vector-like style was used for Koishi, and the text is a common serif font, italicized. The background utlizes a paintbrush brush for its vignette.

Background

I wanted to try out something simple, like the really clean art that look like they're made up of geometric shapes rather than brush strokes, as well as some cel-shading. I think I didn't do too bad replicating the style, but as always, I still had a lot to learn, such as the eyes and the shading on the ribbon. The background is a monochromatic dull gray because I wanted to use it as my PC background, which at the time had a really neat arrangement for all the desktop icons, so I wanted it to be kind of blank. Of course, I didn't want to make it too dull, so I added a mock vignette effect using a semi-transparent watercolor? brush. For the text, I just wanted to try out the text feature. And yes, I know how it looks, and that's probably why I almost never touched the text tool ever again.

Techniques

Each color has very few different shades, in order to keep a simple look. No outlines were used, and the edges of all the objects were smoothed to make them look simple. Overlapping objects are distinguished with shading.
