Description

"fireworks" is a drawing of Renko and Maribel atop a mound, looking at distant fireworks of vibrant primary and secondary colors.

Motive

2016 was apparently the year Dr. Latency's Freak Report was released in. As 2026 was the 10th anniversary of the album (which is my second favorite), I decided to draw something as a small tribute. At the smae time, I also wanted to make something for Lunar New Year. Technique-wise, wanted to experiment more with the painterly style, especially with the fireworks and the lighting, so I made it into a fireworks-viewing scene with the fireworks representing the quarks as seen on the album cover. The character designs are taken straight from the album as well.

Process

I first sketched out the characters and the fireworks, and then colored the characters. The main three fireworks already had their general positions decided, so I shaded the characters accordingly first. After that, I drew the fireworks and the background, as well as adding some smaller ones near the edges to add more variation. One example of this is the yellow firework that lights Maribel's left side.
